JK Chief Minister Omar, while appreciating the invitation sent by Narendra Modi to Pakistan PM for his swearing-in-ceremony, has also raised a valid question - how BJP would have reacted if Rahul Gandhi did a similar thing? I think Omar missed the bigger issue -- how would majority of people (youths who are below 35) react to Modi reaching to Pakistan and a congress PM doing the same. The former is seen as a genuine attempt for a peaceful relationship with our neighbor and the later as appeasement of Muslims back home. The former is perceived as pro-development; the later as cheap vote politics,benefiting none. The former is pro-India; the later is just another secular show. The reasons for Congress debacle in 2014 elections (and also of sincere Chief Ministers like Nitish Kumar) lie somewhere here -- discourses around secularism have changed. The politics of Congress has made secularism a much hated terminology now -- one which harmed everyone: majority, minority as well as the whole country. Modi understood it well and true. Congress couldnt.
