JOB OPPORTUNITY!!!! Kennedy-Lugar YES Abroad Local Coordinator Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Project Title: YES Abroad Program Title of the Post: Part-time Kennedy-Lugar YES Abroad Local Coordinator Application Deadline: March 1st, 2014 Duty Station: Banja Luka, RS, Bosnia and Herzegovina Duration of Assignment: 12 months (with a possibility of extension) Duties and Responsibilities: This is a part-time position with location in Banja Luka where the local coordinator will work on an average of 20 hours per week. Contract should begin on April 14th, 2014. Kennedy-Lugar YES Abroad Local Coordinator will be responsible for providing administrative assistance in general project implementation and management as well as day-to-day liaison with program partners and participants in Banja Luka. He/She will provide comprehensive administrative support to the YES Abroad Program Coordinator and the Office Director in Sarajevo, Regional Director and other senior staff. Banja Luka YES Abroad Local Coordinator is to carry out his/her functions under the direct supervision of the Country Director (Office Director in Sarajevo) with consultation with the YES Abroad Program Coordinator in Sarajevo. Specifically, local coordinator’s key functions will be: 1. Coordination of the Kennedy – Lugar YES Abroad Program in Banja Luka: Assist the students in obtaining permit and other necessary paperwork for temporary residence documents and visas; Meet with the students—arrange check-in/monitoring meetings with students every two weeks (once a month in a group, once a month individually); Identify potential host families in Banja Luka for the students prior to their arrival to B&H; Meet and coordinate with the host families—arrange check-in/monitor meetings with host families every month; Arrange and accompany students on excursions and cultural activities both in Banja Luka and other locations in the country during non-school hours; Coordinate with the IB coordinator and teachers at students’ high school throughout the year to monitor student progress and resolve issues and attend monthly parent-teacher meetings; Keep up with and report to the YES Abroad Program Coordinator on any health issues, attend doctor and dentist visits with students; Monitor and keep both the Sarajevo and Washington, DC offices up to date on student issues; Report monthly on the progress/status of the students to the Sarajevo and Washington, DC office; Compile requisite reporting for quarterly reports to the Department of State; Take and collect pictures and write stories for country, regional, and DC offices to use and send to ECA and embassies and post online; Arrange for and distribute stipends, travel disbursements, or other financial paperwork; Organize and supervise short intensive courses of local language; coordinate with language teacher; Together with the country and DC offices coordinate arrival, mid-year and end-of-year orientations for students and/or host families; Assist students in finding community service opportunities and extracurricular activities. 2. Coordinate projects, work with and support the YES alumni in the region throughout the calendar year. 3. Perform other duties as determined by the American Councils Office in Sarajevo. COMPETENCIES: Professionalism; Interest and demonstrated experience in working with high school students; Ability to work independently and to maintain flexibility in working hours; Planning and organizing skills – demonstrated effective organisational skills and ability to handle work in an efficient and timely manner; Teamwork – excellent interpersonal skills; Ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity; Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with counterparts; Communication skills – ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate effectively orally in English and B/C/S. Knowledge of educational systems in B&H is a plus. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Education University degree in social sciences, public or business administration, English, education, or other related area. Strong preference is given to candidates with educational experience in the U.S. Work experience At least two years of administrative assistance experience and/or work with youth; experience in providing assistance in project coordination, implementation, and reporting. Language proficiency Fluency in written and spoken English and B/C/S languages. Other skills Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Internet) is essential; Familiarity with high school education in BiH and IB programs is regarded as an asset.
