Joe Martin made a very rare appearance to MCR in part of the RUSH Manufacturers night and walked away with the Manufacturers Night win. Jeramy Williams picked up his seventh win of the season in the Highway Auto Sales Street Stocks in the Steve Preston Memorial, Carl Mckinney won in the CRS Emods, Jason Dobson and Mitch Boylan won in the pure stocks and mini stocks. A season high 43 cars from all over Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, and Ontario, Canada were on hand for the third annual RUSH Manufacturers Night, but first ever at McKean. Over $30,000 in prizes were distributed to the RUSH Late Model racers! Bruno Mowery won the grand prize of a EF40000DE/D Yamaha Electric Start Generator and wheel kit. Adam Sixt drew the pole position, but it was Knowles taking the early lead. The two raced side-by-side on laps three and four, but Knowles was able to maintain to the top spot. By lap five, the top five of Knowles, Sixt, Chad McClellan, Justin Smith, and Martin began to distance themselves from the field. A three-car accident in turn two slowed the pace that included Series regular Cody Dawson with seven laps scored. When racing resumed, McClellan took over second from Sixt, while Martin moved to fourth past Smith. The top four then began to pull to pull away from the pack. McClellan put the pressure on Knowles and looked under the leader in turn four on lap 11, but Knowles led the lap. They raced side-by-side on lap 12, but again Knowles was able to maintain the lead, while Martin darted past Sixt on the bottom of the backstretch for third. The events second caution slowed action with 12 laps recorded for Rob Marhefka and Bill Mesler. Back under green, Martin made quite a move to get under McClellan in turn one to nab second before a four-car accident slowed action for the final time of the event with 13 laps scored. The last 12 laps went green-to-checkered. Martin put the heat on Knowles , while directly behind 10th starting John Waters moved into contention as he battled with McClellan for third. As the laps ticked off, it was great racing up front as Knowles and Martin ran side-by-side for the lead, while McClellan and Martin were two-by-two for third! Finally on lap 19, Martin got underneath Knowles in turn three and made the pass stick. The top four again pulled away as the laps ticked off. Martin though was too strong as he became the Series fifth straight different winner of the season and seventh overall in 11 races! Martins victory came in his Neese Trucking/Spartan Thru Tubing/Martin Farms/RMI Incorporated/Ingram Engines-sponsored, Wylie Race Cars #55. After failing to qualify for the feature at the last event, Knowles runner-up was his best career effort in a Sweeney Tour event. On the final lap, Waters made contact with McClellan in turn four to make the pass for third. McClellan then lost the handle down the frontstretch and would back across the line in sixth as the yellow was displayed for the spinning Justin Smith. Sixt dropped to fourth at the finish for his third top 10 in as many Sweeney Tour starts this year, but his best of the season. For the second straight race at McKean, Series point leader Ryan Montgomery was the Precise Racing Products Hard Charger. Montgomery had to take a provisional and start 25th after a heat race accident, but worked his way to an impressive fifth to maintain a 55-point lead despite Waters now gaining in four of the last five races. After McClellan in sixth, McKean point leader Chad Ruhlman was seventh over Brady Wonderling, Eric Wilson, and Jason Rider. Nineteen Patriot Sprint cars took Curtis Peter’s green flag with fifteen year old Dane Lorenc of Lancaster NY beat local Bradford PA racer Jared Zimbardi to turn one. At the conclusion of lap 1 it was Lorenc, Zimbardi and Scott Kreuter. Zimbardi kept pressure on Lorenc as Memorial Day weekend MCR Patriot winner, Bryan Howland and Belfast’s, Steve Collins keeping pressure on Kreuter. At the halfway point in the event, the top five was still the same as Zimbardi was really applying the hot pressure on Lorenc. Howland would get by Kreuter for third, while Collins car seemed to start fading with Jared Horstman makng his move for the top five. The final five laps would see Zimbardi look high and low on Lorenc but he would fall short as the 15 year old Lancaster NY driver crossed the striped for his first ever win defeating the series point leader and defending champion Zimbardi who is still looking for is first ever win at MCR. Bryan Howland who won the May sprint event was third ahead of Kreutter and Horstman held on for fifth over the other local favorite, Steve Collins of Belfast. Bolivar NY racer, Tyler Graves won the sprint dash. The Highway Auto Street Stocks ran a special 20 lap event in the Steve Preston Memorial. Ted Mascho and Rich Wotjowicz brought the field to the green with Mascho in front at the start but contact between the two coming out of turn would result in a left front flat for Mascho handing the lead over to Wotjowciz, the yellow lights would flash on lap three for a three car spin for Victor Earle, Andy Eastman and Ryan Snyder. Mascho went to the pit for the flat, while Wotjowicz kept Stebbins at bay while Jeramy Williams worked his way to third behind point leader Stebbins. Williams kept the pressure on Stebbins and Wotjowiz until lap eight when Williams went around the top two racers to grab the lead. Stebbins kept the pressure on Wotjowicz till lap thirteen as he became the new runnerup with Randy Taylor now in fourth behind Wotjowicz. Stebbins would close in on Wlliams but the #07 driver from Youngsville was strong enough to grab his seventh win of the season over Stebbins, Wotjowicz, Taylor and Jason Dobson rounded out the top five. The Close Racing Supply Emods saw former UEMS Series champion, Carl McKinney on the front row with MCR point leader, Vic Vena on the outside. McKinney beat Vena into turn one with 14 year old Jacob Eucher in third. Mr.V6, Darren Tarabori got around Eucher on lap three. By lap five, McKinney had three car lengths on Vena. Al Brewer started to apply pressure on Eucher for fourth and would grab the position at the halfway point. McKinney would keep Vena far enough behind him as Brewer seemed to be the fast car the final laps closing in on Tarabori and Vena but ran out of laps as, Carl McKinney grabbed his first win at MCR over Vena, Tarabori, Brewer and Eucher. Vena’s point lead over Brewer increased from two to six points going into the final two events. Art Peterson out powered Tim Burkett on the start to lead lap one only to see the yellow lights come out for Anthony Schoonover who tagged the turn four wall. On the restart, Peterson held off Joe Layfield on the restart. The next yellow came out on la three for Cliff Easton. The restart saw Jason Dobson get by Layfield to grab second. While running in third, Layfield would get tapped by point leader Roger Schweikart resulting in both cars to spin bringing out another yellow. The restart would see Layfield jump the start and would be facing a penalty while Peterson had Dobson, Burkett, Mike Parmenter and Moose Reed now in fifth. Parmenter would take third on lap seven from Burkett with Ed Parementer moving into fifth on lap nine. The yellow lights woud come out on lap eleven for Eric Murray. On the restart Dobson was all over Peterson who was making his car ten feet wide. As the laps clicked off, Dobson would try lap after lap to get under Peterson but made the winning move coming to the white flag to grab the win over Peterson, Mike Parmenter, Roger Schweikart and Joe Layfield came back for fifth. Larry Mitchell Sr paced the fifteen car mini stock feature. Point leader, Mitch Boylan outran Mitchell on the start but only to see a series of cautions. Boylan would lead the opening laps over Mitchell and Chris Paar. Paar would move into second on lap four as Travis Babcock was looking for third on Mitchell Sr. As the field was taking the halfway mark, Aaron Bartas drove off turn one reentered the race track at the track entrance as he rounded turn four severe contact was made between Matt Putt, Matthew Burrell and Bartas with Bartas receiving the black flag for his re-entering the track, this all resulted in the final yellow of the event. The restart saw Boylan again distance himself over Paar with Kurt Babcock now challenging Mitchell for third. Babcock would grab third with two to go but had no time to get to Paar with Boylan crossing the line first over Paar,Kurt Babcock, Mitchell Sr., and Travis Babcok in fifth. MCR will be back in action this Saturday night, September 6 with the return of the super late models for the 10th annual Stephanie Eckl Memorial.
