JOINT MEDIA STATEMENT: Exit 54 Funding Announcement QUEUES of traffic to exit the Pacific Motorway at Coomera will soon be a distant memory, with funding announced today to upgrade the interchange. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said the Federal Government will contribute $10 million to the interchange upgrade from the Australian Government’s Infrastructure Investment Programme. The balance of the $78 million cost of the interchange will be met by the Queensland Government and developer contributions. Federal Member for Forde Bert van Manen said the intersections are currently congested causing traffic to bank up at peak times all the way down the off-ramps and onto the Motorway. “As a result, motorists endure lengthy delays to their travel plans,” Mr van Manen said. “By improving the interchange here the works will regulate the traffic entering and exiting the motorway, making it safer for everyone on this section of the Pacific Motorway.” Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads Scott Emerson said the upgrade would replace the two roundabouts with signalised intersections and build a new three-lane overpass. “A new loop ramp for northbound motorists to connect to the Coomera town centre will also help by taking some traffic out of these intersections,” Mr Emerson said. “This will be a great catalyst for Coomera’s future development.” The project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments, with the Queensland Government to provide a funding allocation as well as the proceeds of land sales, plus contributions have been secured from the town centre developers.
