JONATHAN DESERVES IMPEACHMENT, SAYS VOTAS Former chairman of the Transition Monitoring Group (TMG) and president of the Nigeria Voters Assembly (VOTAS), Comrade Mashood Erubami has said it is President Goodluck Jonathan that deserved to be impeached by the National Assembly for violation of the Constitution rather that the opposition. He said yesterday in a statement that if Governor Murtala Nyako could be impeached with un-substantiated allegations using faulty procedural constitutional provisions, carrying out the threat of impeachments in other APC states could not be ruled out as is presently being dangled in Nasarawa State against Governor Al-Makura. “Whereas, gross violation of the constitution is being committed daily by the President who sworn to uphold and protect the constitution, yet the Senate is not turning an eyelid, especially when it is certain that the sponsorship of rebellion in the states not under the control of the PDP is itself an impeachable offence against the masterminds,” Erubami said. He said the current attempt by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to unleash politics of impeachment to wrestle power from opposition, against the governor who disagrees with the President is condemnable as it is a threat to the nation’s democracy.
