JTC Food Hub to feature shared cold room facilities The upcoming JTC Food Hub in Senoko will feature shared integrated cold room warehouse facilities which will reduce initial start-up cost of tenants and enable them to enjoy better economies of scale and lower operating costs. The shared facility will be operated by a third-party logistics service provider that will also offer a full suite of logistics services to tenants; JTC will be calling for proposals from interested parties to operate the integrated cold room warehouse in the coming months. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Singapore Food Expo yesterday, Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Trade and Industry, said that he was glad to note that JTC Corporation will be commencing construction of the new food hub later this year. When it is completed by 2017, it will provide key infrastructure to support the push for further productivity improvements by small and medium enterprises in the food sector, he said. The benefits offered by the new food hub include a pallet lifter/conveyor system to ensure smooth delivery and retrieval of raw materials and finished goods directly into the factory units and an advanced IT system that can track the movement of goods and ensures the integrity of the cold chain. The seven-storey development located in Senoko Food Zone will comprise 50 modular factory units that have the flexibility of being combined to form a larger space. Each production unit is about 1,100 square metres. The facility, which is slated to be the first integrated, multi-tenanted development for the food manufacturing industry, is ideal for companies engaging in food manufacturing activities or central kitchen operations.
