JULY 22, 2013 THOUGHTS FROM JOB CHAPTER 26 OVERVIEW OF THE CHAPTER Job begins by asking his friends on how practical they have been in their religious experience. Then Job kind of explains and expounds Bildad’s utterance which talked about the transcendence of God. However, Job goes into details and in the process he shows how God is not just above and beyond us but he also shows how He was and is involved, day in day out, with His creation. God is portrayed as the Creator who cannot be compared with Egyptian deities. REFLECTIONS In this chapter, Job challenges the Egyptian theological worldview and approach. Koot says, “Job wants to know the specifics of the source of this Egyptian theology of what the dead go through after death. There are no evil monsters lurking on the heavenly Nile trying to grab the deceased souls from the bark of the [sungod] Ra as he makes his trip at midnight through the twelve gates to the judgment hall of Osiris, the judge of the dead.” In other words, Job finds that the spirit which his friends spoke from is not God’s but somehow demonic. LESSONS 1. Warning: The dangerous thing with mixing truth and error is that truth is obscured and errors is clothed with the garment of truth. For one to be able to detect error, proper study of the word is the prerequisite. In this case, one can imagine how hard it is detect Egyptian demonic theology that influenced the argument of Job’s friends. 2. Egypt is the first to have a demonic trinity (Isi, Horus and Osiris) that is a type of the endtime demonic trinity of the beast, the dragon and the false prophet. The Egyptian trinity, in Egyptian mythology, was involved in the work of creation; a counterfeit of God’s creation. The endtime demonic trinity is also known to be accepting evolutionism which at the end of the day, disputes the validity of the Sabbath. Job is against such error. 3. God is both beyond and within us. He is the God who is high and above us, the Lord of the whole universe. He is also within us and He is so much involved in the daily affairs that affects His creation. This is in line with the promise Jesus’ made, “Lo, am with you up to the end of the age.” 4. The fact that Egyptians mythology cannot stand Biblical understanding of God is an assurance that Satan’s and his vast mountains of error will one day go with Him. Dear God, We also understand with Job and Moses the final eradication of Satan and his angels. Standing at the door of great events concluding this world’s history, help us to stand firm. Amen.
