JULY 23, 2013 THOUGHTS FROM JOB CHAPTER 27 OVERVIEW OF THE CHAPTER This chapter is Job’s final words to His friends. Job is still steadfast in that even though God appears to be silent and has denied him just; he is certain about his innocence (v.6). He outrightly tells his friends that they are in the wrong. He portrays the fate of the wicked who is separated from God. He wonders how a divinely severed wicked man can cling to God. Consequently, he offers them a free lecture on the nature of the relationship between the wicked and God. One amazing thing is that even though Job appears to be suffering the fate like that of the wicked, he counts himself out of that category. The conclusion of the matter is that no matter how the wicked flourish but he cannot stand the test of time. LESSONS 1. A Christian life worth living must be void of regrets. Job has shown us that regrets and religiosity are not bed fellows. 2. Koot van Wyk shows us the emptiness of being a fake believer in God. He says, “Job wants to know whether this fake believer will have a faith that endures at “all times.” Is his religion just a put on and take off one? Job explains to his secular and humanistic friends: “I will instruct you and tell you about God and not conceal the actions of the Almighty” (v. 11).” 3. Job’s final words are reminding the following: a. How vital it is to cling to God even when things are not adding up. b. How profitable it is to remain steadfast even in the hour of trial and doubt. c. How spiritually beneficial it is to refrain from compromising even when under pressure to do so. Dear God, We are asked to stand firm regardless of the tempest of Satan knowing that You are holding us firmly by the hand. The way of the wicked is not our way but You we want to follow. Amen.
