JUST BEFORE LAGOS HORN-FREE DAY: Iam totally in support of kicking out noise in our system by applauding the Horn-Free day in Lagos on 15th October but the question is while trying to implement it I just hope that it wont cause more wahala! What will I do when I see a big gully,crater,pot hole in front of me and somebody wants to hit me should I jump inside the hole, should I not use my horn to scare and warn the intruding driver! What do I do on that day when a pedestrian that is supposed to have been provided a walk way or pedestrian Bridge suddenly dashes in front of my speeding car, crush him or use my horn to warn him off. What do I do when am in traffic and a LASTMA official who is supposed to control traffic is busy bullying a motorist or negotiating egunje, use my horn or watch the road get messed up. Concepts like usage of less horn is ideal when government has fulfilled its own side of the social contract by providing motorable roads, functional traffic lights and personnel, construction of path ways and Pedestrian Bridges and of course enabling environment that will not make motorists to be lunatics on wheels. Its only then that we can fly such concept, And for that I just hope that October 15th Horn free day will not cause more katakata than the envisaged sanity it portends to bring!
