JUST FOR TODAY, I shall be gracious to all I meet. For, is it not - TopicsExpress

JUST FOR TODAY, I shall be gracious to all I meet. For, is it not true that grace is undeserved favor? And if my Creator can see fit to endow me with unmerited favor, and sometimes, even supernatural favor, who am I not to emulate the splendor of His graciousness by refusing to withhold mortal grace from my brother? Will it not rank as a pathetic deficit in gratitude if I am unable to position myself as a conduit for the flow of divine grace to another creation of His? My easy approachability and graciousness will compel all men of good will to gravitate towards me to bless me. Today, I shall display uncommon kindness and warm courtesy to that old lady by offering her my seat on the overcrowded bus. Today, I shall respond to that gratuitous insult with gracious humor. Today, I shall be at my charming and gracious best when I receive my in-laws at lunch. Today, I shall relate with my spouse with kind consideration. Today, my graciousness will find active expression in the generosity of my spirit. And, it is with matchless elegance, urbane refinement and innate good taste, all borne of good breeding, shall I subscribe totally to living graciously. Indeed, it is my graciousness that will accord me the instant indulgence of others of less refinement when they treat me with odium and contempt. And so shall I smile with gracious indulgence as that fellow jumps the queue, planting himself firmly in front of me. With the same gracious smile shall I neutralize the sting in my brothers malicious and hurtful words. Without graciousness, how can I forgive my neighbor for sneaking into my barn before dawn to stealthily milk my goat and filch my grain? Without graciousness, how can I empathize with my son as he contends painfully with the issues of life? Today, I will graciously pay for the car behind me at the toll gate, for, not knowing me, he can only qualify the episode as unmerited favor, and as he replicates the gesture to someone else, will the world not be better off for the roller coaster of goodwill? It is with the same grace that I will hold the door open for another man to go through before me. And lo and behold, so gracious shall I be, that I shall serve my fellow man so selflessly that he will fill my purse with more gold than I deserve. Today is my day of grace, I shall revel and rejoice in it! ACTION EXERCISE Today, say this prayer of grace: Lord, give me the graciousness of spirit to serve another without thought of compensation, in full realization that, ultimately, just as no evil shall go unpunished, so shall no effort of mine go unrewarded.
