JUST IN - Beaver Fire Evening Update ************* New Evacuation Advisory Incident: Beaver Fire Wildfire Released: 14 min. ago Effective 9:00 pm August 10, the Beaver Fire Incident Commander has requested an evacuation advisory be issued by Siskiyou County Sheriffs Office for residents on Highway 96 from Doggett Creek WEST to Horse Creek Road, the Horse Creek Road area, and the 12 Road (Middle Creek Road). Residents should be prepared to evacuate should fire conditions worsen. Additionally, all previous evacuation advisories remain in effect. The Jackson Street School Evacuation Center in Yreka is on standby. If assistance is required, residents within the evacuation advisory area should contact the Siskiyou County Sheriff at (530) 841-2900. ***************** Siskiyou County, CA August 10, 2014 – The lightning-caused Beaver Fire started July 30, 2014. It is located on the Klamath National Forest, north of Highway 96 in Siskiyou County, California. Fire officials estimate the fire size at 22,397 acres and 25% contained as of 6 p.m. Approximately 1,449 firefighters are working on the fire. A Red Flag Warning has been issued in the area today through Tuesday for thunderstorms and associated strong, erratic winds. Crews on the Beaver Fire are prepared to assist the Klamath National Forest in responding to any new fire starts, should they occur. The fire was most active today on the western flank from the top of Doggett Creek northwest to Deer Camp as winds pushed from the east. Crews continued to construct and improve containment lines from Dry Lake Mountain southwest along Buckhorn Ridge and down to Highway 96 ahead of the active fire front. They will continue to look for opportunities to construct line further east. Crews on the eastern side of the fire used tactical burning operations successfully from Highway 96 west of Gottville to help reduce remaining fuels between the fire’s edge and containment lines. Structures are being assessed west of Oak Knoll along Highway 96 in the event that the fire turns toward the road. Crews continued today to patrol and mop up around structures in the Beaver Creek drainage and around the Laveta Road. Currently, no structures have been damaged or destroyed. Evacuation Information: An evacuation advisory has been issued by the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office for the area between Lumgrey Creek to Doggett Creek. The evacuation shelter at the Jackson Street Elementary School in Yreka, California, is now in stand-by mode. Residents who wish to use the shelter can call the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office at (530) 841-2900 to have it opened. Please call the Sheriff’s Office or the Beaver Fire information line at (530) 331-0737 for current evacuation status. Road Closure Information: Highway 96 is now open. However, motorists in the area should be aware that when fire activity impacts the road or when work is required on sections of the road, there may be intermittent delays and/or hard closures. There are multiple fires on the Klamath National Forest in Siskiyou County and in other areas around northern California and southern Oregon. Stay alert and be aware of increased fire equipment traffic on roads. Drive with low-beam headlights on and DO NOT stop or park along the roads to watch the fire or firefighting activities. Additionally, anyone in the vicinity of a fire should be aware of hazard trees, falling rocks that could enter roadways, and smoky conditions.
