JUST IN: Penrith City Council has released the following statement - Following the approval of a development application (DA) at Clifton Avenue Kemps Creek for a place of worship, there have been some comments about the notification process. Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler OAM has confirmed that the same notification process is followed each time for places of worship and other DAs. “All DAs considered by Penrith Council for places of worship are notified in the same manner as outlined under the Penrith Development Control Plan 2010,” Councillor Fowler said. “These applications were notified in precisely the same manner as any place of worship of this size regardless of denomination. “Council is required to notify adjoining property owners and relevant resident groups by letter for a period of 14 days. Council encourages community feedback including impacts on views, overshadowing, pollution, visual quality of the building, the development’s scale, hours of use, parking provision and traffic generation. “The development must address these issues adequately for it to be approved. If it follows all these planning matters then Council will approve the development. “Where the DA is deemed to be integrated development, which can include places of worship, Council also advertises in the Western Weekender each week. “A full page, early in the newspaper (before page 13), is taken out each week and this lists all the DAs requiring notification for that week.”
