JUST TO LET EVERYONE KNOW THAT MYSELF AND ALL MY ASSOCIATES ARE BARRED FROM DUNE BOUTIQUE IN HAYLE!!! WAS LOCKED IN WHILST WAITING FOR THE POLICE TO ARRIVE! Just had one of lifes more surreal experiences! Went into Dune boutique, in Hayle for a Christmas dress for Gracie May Bawden on 22 Dec. Checked at the till that it was machine washable as we dont do dry cleaning and even less hand washing! Washed said dress inside a pillowcase in machine, at 30*. Dress faded from beautiful mustard to dingy yellow. Took dress back to Dune on New Years Eve to query its colourfastness. Owner runs through every conceivable reason why it cant possibly be her responsibility. She accused Gracie of buying a knock-off dress in Penzance, on account of not being able to produce a receipt. We pointed out that we would be recorded on CCTV at the till, making the purchase, and that the conversation regarding washing requirements would also be recorded. Owner responded with You cant listen to my staff. They dont know what theyre talking about. At which, we obviously laughed. This clearly angered owner who started to making phone calls to ascertain that other sales assistants wouldnt have advised washing the dress, though, notably, not the lady that actually served us?!?!? After lots or utterly irrelevant attempts at intimidation and distraction, (she bought a coffee table and got a red wine stain on it and cant get her money back: her washing machine fills with boiling water, even at 30*etc), the upshot is that she kept the dress, for fibre analysis to verify that the dress had been washed as I told her it was and that she would speak to the lady (Pat) that served us. This would all be resolved on Saturday, when Pat was next on shift. This lunchtime we returned to the shop for the conclusion. Owner says she hasnt had time to deal with it. Dress is packaged to be sent for analysis, but theres been no postal service. Odd, as weve had deliveries yesterday and today. Explained that I was finding her approach to customer service quite unsatisfactory. Owner once again angry, claiming that we were harassing her repeatedly, turning up at her business mob handed, trying to intimidate her. She has been held at gunpoint before and cannot have people attacking her at her business. Incidentally, mob handed was myself and Phoebe, 12 yr old daughter who is probably 6 stone dripping wet! Owner proceeded to call the Police, claiming that a customer is behaving aggressively, with and intimidating other female in tow. With situation getting a bit nutty, decided it was probably wise to wait for the Police to arrive, at which point owner tried to physically push me out of the shop. When I explained that it was in my interest to wait for the Police, so she left the shop, locking Phoebe and myself in!!! Perfectly reasonable, (and thankfully, SANE) police officer listened to story and wondered exactly what he was doing there. Clearly he wasnt quite getting how terrifying it must have been to encounter Phoebe and myself! He advised that we proceed through a trading standards route, which it had already become clear that this was the case. Sadly the CCTV footage of us buying the dress, or the conversation surrounding it, or the current debacle were not available. They are on the laptop - somewhere else. OF COURSE THEY ARE!! Like you are sending the dress for scientific analysis; like your solicitor friend has told you that you have no liability. Fb friends, please feel free to tell me that it is me thats nuts and that Dune owners behaviour is perfectly normal and reasonable. Happy New Year, my beauties!
