JUSTICE FOR THE RICH? We all woke up to the news that Honorable Masumba and Mpombo have been released from prison. They were serving respective sentences for forgery and theft by public servant and using a fraudulently obtained paper to get employment. It might look and seem an innocent pardon in the eyes of the naive observer. But this is more of a political game than anything else. These are two individuals who should have served their full sentences to set an example to other would be offenders. Am not being naive i know like other Zambians they deserve the pardon. But what kind of a system are we portraying to the outside world? THE REAL REASON FOR RELEASE This is my personal opinion and you are entitled to disagree with it but do so with convincing reasons. The real reason Mpombo and Masumba have been released is because of political expediency. The Patriotic Front - PF knows that the political atmosphere in central,copperbelt Western and North-Western provinces is becoming uncomfortable. If you have two prisoners who are in a prison and you know how much they can add to you winning an election, you will be silly to leave them in prison. Release them, even if you dont instruct them to campaign for you, gratitude will force them to do so. Masumba is very popular in his province and so is Mpombo in both central and copperbelt provinces. The two have come out at a very opportune time and believe me they will do their best to show gratitude to their benefactors. If you are naive and want to think they have been released because of good behavior, then ask what General Kanene is still doing in jail when he has been used as an ambassador to preach to his fellow inmates. Has he not been better behaved than Masumba who was busy rubbishing the judiciary? IMPLICATIONS We have created in this country this very bad culture of doing everything for political expediency. Our leaders have abandoned principles for the sake of winning an election and holding public office. The PF have played a very strategic political card but at what cost? To make it more clearer i just want you to reflect on all those who are endorsing others and what their motive are. What would prompt Dora for example to endorse Lungu? How about the other MMD MPs? How about those who where in MMD and said UPND was a tribal party, what has changed now? When you look at the two front runner parties you realize that its the same old gang that is regrouping in these parties and trying to make themselves look like angels. Am not deceived and i know most Zambians are not. But here is the problem, our politics have become so abhorrent to morality that people are willing to do just about anything to win an election. Tribalism is at its worst and those who want to pretend its not there are deceiving themselves. Going into this election i can assure you that this election will be won on regionalism and not who has the best agenda for Zambia. we have set a very bad precedence for our country and we should all be ashamed. As citizens we have contributed to this because we are accepted mediocrity to rule over us. Enjoy your Festive Season.
