Jacob(not me) was a sinner. He took what wasnt his: first he - TopicsExpress

Jacob(not me) was a sinner. He took what wasnt his: first he cheated his older brother, Esau, then his father-in-law, Laban, in order to get what he wanted (his fathers blessing, and a wife). Even his name meant deceiver - this guy knew he didnt deserve goodness. So, he ran off in fear. Then one night the Angel of the Lord showed up as Jacob slept in the desert, fleeing his furious brother. Jacob wrestled with Him until daybreak. Obvious move, right? Its one of the weirder stories in the bible, found in Genesis 32:22- 32, not least because the story implies that Jacob had the gall to fight someone who may have been God Himself, right through the night. Jacob was a sinner. Like you, and us. But he wasnt going to let go of God. Jacob said, I will not let you go unless you bless me. So God gave him a new name that meant prince with God, or, wrestles with God - Israel. His identity was totally changed. No longer driven by fear, he turned to healing his wounded family relationships. This kind of transformation isnt only on offer to special guys who wrestled angels thousands of years ago - Jacob, like you and me, was a sinner. The Bible says, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV). What now? Stay up all night like Jacob. Were kidding. Its a school night. But its definitely worth a pray before you go to sleep tonight.Have you ever asked God what unimaginable things He might have for your life?
