Jahari Sai, Tony Galioto and the Quartet nailed their performance - TopicsExpress

Jahari Sai, Tony Galioto and the Quartet nailed their performance at Harlows tonight before a packed and appreciative house. Ive never witnessed such a crowd, or musicianship, for an opening act at a 7 pm show. If you get a chance to see Jahari Sai (or buy her new CD, The Kiss), do it! This is one tight group that is an amalgamation of jazz, Brazilian, R&B and hip-hop. Theres even a little Stevie Wonder vibe in some of Jaharis singing. I met Jahari and Tony at an open-mic almost ten years ago and am proud to say (brag) that they asked me to sit-in on percussion at some of those performances. Theyve spent all those years since performing and perfecting their act. This is an act that deserves to be recognized. Jaharis powerful voice, guitar and songwriting are pure pro; and Tonys subtle, but spot-on timing on drums creates the frame that perfectly displays the bands performance. Tonights gig consisted of core group Jahari and Tony, plus electric bass, violin and sax. As an added attraction, Jahari invited a local rapper to the stage to do a great mix-up between rapping and Jahari singing the choruses. Im very proud of, and happy for the great music Jahari and Tony have created. Theyre Sacramentos Donald Fagan and Walter Becker (Steely Dan for you post-boomers). I wish them much success and happiness.
