Jake is nearing his 1 year post treatment scans, so why do we keep posting activity to this page? We realize that his fight now is primarily returning to life as a little boy and forgetting the hell he went through. So why do we keep this going? Why do we need to stay involved? Society still forgets about these little fighters and the damage that is done to them and their families. We continue to see examples of how the #1 disease killer of children is brushed aside and under the rug of societies consciousness. We have said before that learning your child has a life threatening illness is in many cases a parents worst nightmare, and it hurts us deep down in our core. So why is it being allowed to go on? A great example is what is happening now in New York. You see the Empire State Building has a fantastic LED light display that they use to honor and celebrate various groups. It lights pink in October (breast cancer), green for the release of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, Red and Yellow for Snapple beverages, blue for the Democratic National Convention Selection Committee, and even multiple colors for M&Ms. Last week the Empire State Trust officially rejected a request to light the tower Gold for Childhood Cancer for ONE DAY. This is an ICONIC landmark and would be wonderful for public awareness, and their official statement said its not possible to honor the request. They have the ability to honor M&Ms and a convention selection committee visiting, but not 13,500 children that are diagnosed every year? Why does this not anger people? Why in this age of infinite knowledge at our fingertips to we turn our backs on our most vulnerable citizens?
