Jamaat backs Geelani’s poll boycott call Asks people to stay away from electoral exercise People are support election Boycott call more then politicians Srinagar, Nov 16: Influential politco- religious organization Jamaat- e- Islami Saturday came out in support of Hurriyat Conference ( G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s poll boycott campaign declaring that the Jamaat cadres won’t participate in 2014 Assembly and Parliament elections in Jammu and Kashmir. J& K Jamaat- e- Islami chief Muhammad Abdullah Wani told local news gathering agency CNS that he has asked the Jamaat cadres to stay away from forthcoming elections. “ We also appeal people of J& K to boycott the elections as they did in the past. It has been a consistent policy of Jamaat right from 1987 and this time also we will adhere to this policy,” Wani said. He said though Jamaat will boycott the elections but it won’t join the poll boycott campaign. “ Propagation of religion is our basic priority but as Kashmiris, we support the Kashmir cause and wish that the issue should be resolved without any delay,” he said. “ Jamaat wants UN resolutions be implemented and in case India does not do so then it should include Kashmiri leadership in the dialogue process. I do agree with Mirwaiz Umar Farooq that Kashmir issue could be resolved either through UN resolutions or trilateral talks,” he said adding that any dialogue between India and Pakistan will be futile unless Kashmiris are involved in the exercise and their aspirations are honored. Jamaat chief castigated the state government for patronizing liquor trade in Kashmir. “ We will soon convene a seminar in this regard and chalk out strategy to curb this menace in Kashmir,” he said and appealed religious organizations to find ways and means and save Kashmiri society from getting socially and morally degraded.
