Jamaica, land of wood and water; where coconut trees grow right - TopicsExpress

Jamaica, land of wood and water; where coconut trees grow right out of your bathroom and the spiders are large enough to catch geckos. I wish pictures were enough to express what it is like to be well received by friends in foreign lands (and that I had taken more to help illustrate). Special thanks to Nicholas Richards for letting me stay in the room he built and for introducing me to the Jamaican culture, especially as we chased women on the beach. I enjoyed Normas cooking of boiled bananas, yams, chicken feet, Ackee and salt fish, dumplings, fish heads, etc. I must also mention my first time eating sugarcane. Church was fun and I was later told I am a good singer ; ) It was great to stay up late playing cards and (learning to play) dominos! I had the pleasure of speaking with many different people and learning some patuah. I suppose what people there gained from me was exposure to the ukulele. At first most people thought it was a violin! I played for a lot of random people and they were inspired to learn; thanks Nick Golben! Sydney turned out to be an exceptional driver on what seemed to be lawless roads (I.e. my first time passing a car as they were passing a truck). If we were in town, however, we couldnt go more than 500ft without talking to someone he knew. He was also very fond of pointing out how different Jamaica is from America. He is a good man and was very concerned for my well-being; I probably gave him more of a hard time with my acrobatics and antics than he deserved. He took me all over Spanish town, Portmore, Manchester, St. Catherine, and more. All in all, I had a great time and I certainly plan on revisiting ASAP. In the end, the best stories arent told (at least not on Facebook).
