James 3: says, And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell. This scripture hit me like a ton of bricks, from a giant right cross. This is so vital for us to receive and understand. But more importantly it is something we must remind ourselves of, each and every day. I know that I have myself have to often, allowed this pestilence a foothold in my own life. Causing strife in my life and my home. It is easy for us to receive into our hearts the words that are spoken concerning us. But often when these words are hostile in ways, we allow them to smolder within our minds before igniting into a raging fire of anger or strife. Just like a forest fire can be started by a simple spark, our strife and anger can be ignited by a simple word that was spoken or received. Just as we must control a campfire we must also control our tongue. Its destructive capabilities require the utmost caution and care. Our words not only distort the perception of others they train our minds to follow. A careless word quickly becomes a deeply held conviction. Our tongue and the words we choose allow for strife to build quickly in our mind and our household. They can cause a great uprising in hostility within our homes, our workplace, even in our own societies. We must remind ourselves of this daily, and we must remain on guard to protect and control both our tongue and our reactions. In truth the things we loose from our lips are often poison toxins designed to hurt and or destroy. They are designed by the enemy to cause strife, and the way we receive them often reflects rather the enemy is working hard. Lord in heaven forgive me for allowing this enemy with me and my home. Help me O Lord to better guard my tongue from spitting these poison and protect my mind from the poison spit at me. Lead me out of this wave of destruction O Lord and allow me to lead my family to calmer waters. In Jesus name Amen.
