James Blue was an internationally acclaimed filmmaker who came to Houston in the early 70s to teach film at the University of St. Thomas and Rice University. He brought his passion for film and vision for media democratization to our city at a time when few people outside of Hollywood could afford to make movies. Blue had a vision for an arts organization that would give aspiring filmmakers the resources and information they needed to tell their stories through film... and thus SWAMP was born. If it werent for James Blue, there probably would not be a SWAMP. Blue passed away at a young age, but his legacy lives on in his amazing films and in the work of SWAMP. Now him alma mater, the University of Oregon, is starting an archive of James Blues work through the James Blue Foundation. Please take a moment to discover this brilliant filmmakers work and to honor his contribution to the early days of Houstons independent film movement. https://vimeo/91224976
