Jammuities braving sultry weather sans electric supply, repaired Transformers. Jammu, ( J & K) July 05: Unscheduled power cuts, voltage fluctuations and poor charging of inverters continue to compound miseries of the local residents even as repair work of damaged transformers is going on at snails pace. As compared to Thursday the power supply situation improved a bit on Friday following rains still most of the city areas faced erratic power cuts and reeled under voltage fluctuations leading to poor charging of inverters during the day. Residnets living in old city area, Sarwal,Subash nagar, New Plot,Amphalla,Kachi Chowni and migrant camps in Muthi,Mishriwalla and Purkhoo complained poor voltage and were the worst hit as power woes made life miserable for most of the residents. Children braved hot and sultry weather conditions and were spotted playing in public parks and outside their houses in the evening in large numbers. In Kunjwani,Channi Himmat,Sainik colony and Talab Tillo areas power situation was equally bad as residents here also complained of unscheduled power cuts at regular intervals. We have not received water supply for the last twenty four hours, a housewife in Sainik colony said. In Gandhi nagar area, Trikuta Nagar,Shastri Nagar and Nanak Nagar areas poor voltage and recurring fluctuations posed great danger to electrical appliances. Several households resorted to conventional means of beating the hot and humid weather conditions. A senior engineer in the Gandhi Nagar sub division said that since early morning we have been receiving several complaints of poor voltage and single phase. He said all our line mans are working in the field and are trying to attend to every complaint.Meanwhile,at various places local residents came out on the roads and blocked traffic to highlight their plight. The residents most affected by the power woes alleged that when transformers in their area suffer damage the PDD authorities install the same for one odd day and again remove the transformer with an old one by carrying out minor repair work.On its part the PDD authorities claimed that since the state cabinet has given its consent to release the payment of the local units engaged by the PDD for the repair work of the transformers the overall power situation will start improving in few days.
