Jane and her younger siblings look up to their 15 year-old sister, Mary, to fill their mothers place. Their mom passed away, but dad is alive. Unfortunately, he must go far away to work and so Mary is often left behind as the only caretaker. This is a tremendous responsibility for such a young girl. They have two older brothers who dropped out of school and are now working as casual laborers in the village. They have not been able to provide much for the children. We are grateful for the opportunity to help Jane – who we are told by her teachers is a brilliant girl – but wish we could do so much more for Mary and the other children left behind.
