Janice Griffin OReilly - I think, Sir, that you are entirely - TopicsExpress

Janice Griffin OReilly - I think, Sir, that you are entirely justified, as I have said before. The implication is there in the film, as it was meant to be. In fact, when I came home from the seeing the movie, my gay son said to me, was there a gay relationship between DuPont and one of the brothers? I said, Well, it was certainly implied. Thats what Ive been reading, replied my brilliant son. I have been giving this a great deal of thought and I will share what I find even more despicable than this lie that Miller has perpetrated. Obviously, I have no problem with whether a person is gay. I certainly, like you, have a problem with someone saying you are if you arent. But way beyond that .... There is a huge fundamental flaw at the very heart of the film: there are so many changes to the truth, as I have been driven to search out the truth since reading how upset you are, especially the timeline. The fact that this didnt happen over a short period right after the 88 Olympics, the fact that you were long.gone from Foxcatcher, the fact that Dave had been coaching there FOR YEARS with DuPont, the fact that Daves death had NOTHING whatsoever to do with you. I think thats the most despicable thing about the film -- because what Bennett Miller has done with his fact twisting and time twisting and bullshit playing with history, is that he leaves the impression that Dave is killed because DuPont is jealous of the relationship between Dave and you, and the love you have for each other, and how dependent you were and reliant on.him at the Olympics, cutting DuPont out, and you and DuPont had had that falling out and you werent speaking to DuPont and he was enraged over that, being left out, by his lover, by his best friend, his only friend in the world, as depicted through dialogue and scenes. The haircut, the dyed hair, the shorts, the cutting his hair, the on your knees, was definitely Intended to convey what Benett Miller has conveyed. Its despicable. And to learn now, on my own, that Dave worked years as a coach at Foxcatcher when you werent even there and his death had absolutely nothing to do with your relationship with DuPont or your time at Foxcatcher is, frankly, outrageous. I think Channing Tatum was superb. I still do. I thought it was a fine film. I was mesmerized. When I saw it. Because I thought it was true, even if somewhat fictionalized. To learn just how fictionalized an account this is has been quite upsetting for the reasons I have given, and more. Artistic license is one thing. But the truth of a thing must always be at the heart of any art. I think Channing found your truth as he was given it and Ruffalo and Carrell found the truth of their characters. I can see why Nancy is not upset with the portrayal of her husband. But Bennett Miller did not find any truth here, he did not illuminate, he did not give us you, Mark, as you apparently are, as I have read about you just on my own, and as we should have seen you or the truth of this death as we should have seen it. Its a shame.
