January 19, 2015 Mexico Mineral Extract Effective Against EMS and Whitespot In this study, shrimp are treated with a mineral extract [not named!] to evaluate its ability in reducing the effects of whitespot and EMS. The results showed that the incorporation of the mineral extract at a 5 mg/g concentration in pelletized diets was effective in reducing the impacts of WSSV and EMS. The compound is stable, simple to administer and relatively inexpensive. Its inclusion in commercial diets provides an efficient mechanism for microbial activity control in the shrimp gut that may contribute to the solution for the mass mortalities associated with V. parahaemolyticus and WSSV on commercial shrimp farms. Compared to control animals, shrimp fed the treated diets had significantly higher survival after challenge by injection with the pathogens.
