Japan CPI Accelerates 1.6% On Year In December (31 Jan 2014) Japan CPI gained 1.6 percent on year in December, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said on Friday. Overall nationwide consumer prices in Japan remained unchanged from the previous month. Core inflation, which strips out the volatile prices for food, was up an annual 1.3 percent, which also would have been unchanged. Among the individual components, prices for fuel were up 5.5 percent on year, followed by food (2.2 percent), transportation (2.1 percent), recreation (1.6 percent), education (0.7 percent), clothing (0.6 percent) and furniture (0.3 percent).
