Japan, your traditions are dying! All the great japanese artist, painters, dancers, musicians, fashion designers, designers, thinkers are successful not because they are from japan, but because they left Japan and its confines to make their studios somewhere else, entering the global society but still keeping to true to their roots and japanese identity, changing from the outside in. In Japan, traditions are dying because the ideas are not accessible to change. You think the traditions are old (which is not true). Because of this, your seek others identities to create new stories which are not yours. If you want to sell fashion in Tokyo, put a Mickey Mouse on it. No one wants a traditional wedding, there are a million “european” wedding shops all around tokyo. Your destroying your self worth. Be true to your ideas, they are unique. Craft manufactures will not make anything other then what they have been making for 500 years. I respect that but at least allow upcoming designers to pushes the limits of your capabilities. Stop being so stubborn. Change from the inside out. I know you can do it, because I have already met so many of you that have started this process while in Tokyo this time. You don’t need to be complicated, lonely, shy, sorry, or polite. Be expressive and bold while maintaing your simplicity. I am not waiting for you to change nor do I want to change you. I just want to make sure you know that your amazing. One industry that is a good example of upkeeping tradition and redefining values is Japanese architecture, You have an amazing history here better then most places in the world. But I can see the change coming. Dont give in to the other identities. Your unique. Traditions are respected and quoted and the variations are immense. Dont change to boring, though it takes architecture longer, 50 years exactly, to change to boring. Dont give in. Next step for japanese architecture, is that you need to get it out to the world now. Others need it. Please share your creations and philosophy.
