Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project 2013 Deadline: 6 March 2014 OVERVIEW: The Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project (MIDP) is a competitive grant program that provides development practitioners with the opportunity to compete for grants worth US$ 45,000 to help scale up their innovative project. The grants are awarded to projects and/or non-governmental organizations that are supporting improved service delivery, in particular, innovative approaches and meet certain set criteria. These projects are not theme based. However, the projects need to contribute to sustainable development. PRIZES: First Prize: US$ 30,000; Second Prize: US$ 10,000; Third Prize: US$ 5,000 The first prize winner is also eligible to compete under the Japan Social Development Fund for an additional grant of up to US$ 200,000 for their work. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA 1) The MIDP Award is open to all development projects being implemented in low income countries and lower middle income countries in Africa, Asia, Commonwealth of Independent States, Middle East, Latin America, the Caribbean, Pacific Islands, and the transition economies of Eastern Europe and Central Asia2. 2) The project must be managed by a NGO with its headquarters in a country in one of the above regions. 3) The project implementation must have started before 1 January 2013. 4) Submissions concerning a recently started project or only a project idea or a feasibility or baseline study will not be considered. 5) Submissions for funding conferences and seminars (either in part or in full) will not be considered. 6) Applicants from previous years (except winners) may re-apply, but they must update the application to include new aspects of the project. 7) Previous MIDP winners are not eligible to apply. HOW TO APPLY 1. Download the proposal template by clicking here [gdn.int/admin/uploads/editor/files/MIDP_application_template_2013.doc]; fill it in and save it on your computer. 2. Prepare a document providing the profile of your organization and save it on your computer. 3. Logon to GDN’s Online Proposal Appraisal system (OPA) using the following internet link; opa.gdn.int and fill in the online application form for MIDP (i.e. Call for Proposal: (CFP-1) and submit it. (On completion of this step, you would receive an automated response from OPA via email (at the address that you provided in the application form) confirming successful submission of your application. Please note here, however, that your application is not yet complete. You have to follow the rest of the steps given below). 4. Upload the Project Proposal 5. Upload the CV 6. Upload the Organisational Profile THINGS to REMEMBER: • The proposal and supporting documents must be submitted as electronic files at GDN’s Online Proposal Appraisal (OPA) (opa.gdn.int). Please note that GDN accepts applications through OPA only. • Proposals must be submitted in the designated application template only [gdn.int/admin/uploads/editor/files/MIDP_application_template_2013.doc]. • If you are unable to submit your application through OPA, please contact us at [email protected], with the subject line: ‘MIDP – Application Request’. • Submissions should not exceed 20 pages. Format should be in Times New Roman, 11- point font with single line spacing and one inch margins. • An organization cannot submit more than one application. • Submissions must be submitted in the English language only. • Incomplete applications will NOT be considered. • Please note that all project information and details provided in the application (along with the Profile and CVs of implementing team members) should be correct, else the submission will be liable for disqualification.
