Japanese/U.S. Cultural Exchange Camping Experience! Apply for this great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and make new friends! Limited slots available for 5th and 6th graders Sponsored by the Okinawa Prefectural Itoman Youth Center Co-Sponsor: Okinawa Prefectural Board of Education, Itoman-city Board of Education. Date and Time: 2/7(Sat) 10:00-2/8(Sun) 12:00 Place: Okinawa Prefectural Itoman Youth Center (347 Kakazu, Itoma-city) Participants: 20 selected students, 5th and 6th grade (10 Japanese, 10 Americans) Participant Cost: 1,500yen registration fee (covers insurance). All additional costs covered by event sponsors. What to bring : Clothes, hat, bug spray, water bottle, notebook, pencil, sneakers or tennis shoes, any prescription medicine, and camping amenities (towel, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush). Note: Transportation will be provided between the camp site and the base gate. No Japanese required. (Interpreters will be at the site to assist the children.) Itinerary Day 1 10:00 Opening ceremony and ice breakers 11:00 Pitching tents 12:00 Lunch 13:00 Craft Class (Making your own Shi-sa-, an Okinawan lion dog) 16:00 Outdoor cooking and dinner 20:00 Bedtime prep (shower time, etc.) 21:00 Campfire Fun Day 2 07:00 Wake up! 07:30 Breakfast 09:00 Putting away the tents 10:00 Craft Class (Making your own cell phone strap) 11:30 Closing ceremony 12:00 End Parents are welcome to accompany their children and spend the night in the main building, while the children sleep in tents in the camping area (Tents are provided). Parents are asked to pay an additional registration fee per person (1,500 yen).
