He was first introduced by his father to the piano at the age of 5, where his father was the gospel pianist in the church. Since then, he has cultivated a rich and pedigreed musical background, being schooled by some of the most legendary jazz musicians, studying at the most esteemed institutions of music, and embracing life to the fullest. Born and raised in Peoria Illinois, Brianna grew up surrounded by music. She was influenced by her father, Charlie Thomas with his own unique talents as a vocalist and percussionist. At age six, Brianna made her debut performance with her father - a duet rendition of the jazz classic, “What A Wonderful World”. Brianna’s talents were discovered by distinguished jazz educator Mary Jo Papich. Soon after, she toured Europe with the Peoria Jazz All-Stars, a big band under Ms Papich’s direction. This was the beginning of Brianna’s career as a jazz vocalist. Playing music since the age of 3, Saylor had an extremely distinguished career in which he has travelled all over the world sharing his love of music with an array of different audiences. He has performed and/or collaborated with Wynton Marsalis, Dwayne Dolphin, Roy Hargrove, Lenny Kravitz, Ellis Marsalis, Questlove, and Mark O’Connor among others. An avid believer in the importance of education, Saylor has conducted music education workshops at dozens of middle schools, high schools, and many of the U.S. finest institutions including Stanford University. In 2010, he made his acting debut in the second season of HBO’s hit show Tremé. Saylor is a member of the Stay Human Band, a ground-breaking jazz ensemble founded by Joe’s longtime friend and colleague Jonathan Batiste. He also holds the drum chair in Vince Giordano’s Nighthawks Orchestra, through which he is featured on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. Upon graduation, he headed for the University of Miami, and a year later, transferred to Virginia Commonwealth (VCU) at the suggestion of Wynton Marsalis, whose father Ellis, was a faculty member. In 1990, Penn accompanied Ellis and Wynton Marsalis to Japan, where he met Lewis Nash. Impressed by the young drummer, Nash recommended him to Betty Carter. Penn was hired and moved to New York City in 1991. Clarke. Matt’s positive energy, sense of humor and ability to explore a broad range of musical settings keeps him in constant demand. In addition, Wilson’s dedication to jazz has helped establish him as a beloved world ambassador for the music, on and off the bandstand. Recently, Matt performed at the White House as part of an all-star jazz group for a State Dinner concert hosted by President Obama.
