Jeffs Album Collection #246 (you know Im making these numbers up, right? Nonetheless, I have enough stuff to run an online radio station) One of my favorite cd’s. The last thing I wrote had me thinking about ships which led me to think about O Positive’s album ToyBoatToyBoatToyBoat. Almost no one has heard of this band, it appears. Had they been part of the goofily named British New Wave (something that actually began in the 60s), they’d have been a little more well-known I think. Alas, they’re out of Boston. After spending twenty minutes online trying to track down the lyrics to this song - and believe me, you cannot find them anywhere, I remembered I had the cd pamphlet. Anyways, here’s a sample of one of the best, unknown bands of the 80‘s. The lead singer sounds a bit like early Roky Erickson to me, when he was one of the 13th Floor Elevators back in the 60‘s. He also plays a socket wrench on this single, the first track on TBTBTB. From the article, “On The Fringes Of Pop With O-Positive” posted here: thecrimson/article/1990/8/17/on-the-fringes-of-pop-with/ ------------------------ Dave Herlihy sounds like a man on the fringe. He blasts the pop music establishment with words that could easily have come from a disgruntled starving musician, a victim of the corporate interests which dominate the music industry. Most popular artists arent interested in doing anything worthwhile, he complains. I dont want success on any terms. I dont care about being a guy in leather pants with no underwear, he says. But Dave Herlihy and his band, O-Positive, are far from the fringe. -------------------------- OVERFLOW by O Positive A happy house is camouflaged in town It took me more than two nights to get it down All the wonders are going up for sale They get high and cannot stand to fail Drop me a line I saw you in the box I imagined you’d given me up for lost Will you swim when your ship comes in Or wait and wonder at your hesitation An overflowing Hey overflow I have no effect upon the scene I see Everyone is coming onto me Fight my fire See my eyes can tell you I’m overboard I’m in shape I sell you An overflowing Hey overflow Bottled up we got to risk that stuff Part time brothers say they’ve had enough Time is gone and push has come to shove Bottoms up and what is in your cup An overflowing Hey overflow https://youtube/watch?v=UN0VAe3V40o
