Jellybean finally knocks Gingerbread off top spot... More phones now run the latest version of Android reveal Google figures Data from the company shows that Jelly Bean became the most installed version of Android during the two week period to July 8th. According to Google ’s figures, Jelly Bean is now installed on 37.9 per cent of devices. The now three and a half year old Gingerbread is now installed on 34 per cent. However, the Google’s own figures revealed that only 5.6 per cent of Android phones on the market are running the very latest version of the mobile operating system. The remaining 32.3 per cent havevAndroid Jelly Bean 4.1.x installed. Ice Cream Sandwich – released incOctober 2011 – sits in third place, installed on 23.3 per cent of Android handsets.Together, Donut, Eclair and Froyo make up 4.6 per cent of all handsets. The growing fragmentation of Android is an increasing headache for app developers. It is also creating problems for users due to the increasing risk of malware on the platform. “We believe the new data more accurately reflects those users who are most engaged in the Android and Google Play ecosystem,” explained the Android Development team. It added that the figures were developed from the number of devices accesssing the Google Play store during the period. Prior to April 2013, the company gathered numbers by polling data from phones checking into Google’s servers.
