Jerry Benson writes , If I were to take a trip down memory lane back about 50 years, I would find myself in that block building with the orange wings (The Delray Cafe ) On a week-end morning the place would be hopping. By 10:00 A.M. the bread would be out of the ovens ( 100+ loaves) Wayne, Ronnie or Naomi would be turning out hot-cakes and eggs non stop while getting ready for the lunch rush, Bordie, Billy, Steve or Don would be peeling potatoes or washing dishes, out front Cathy, Esther,Datherine or Ida would be serving the customers and carrying on a lively banter with them.At any time you might find sitting at the counter Dr.Massey and Jerry Nygaard coming in after a morning at Fin& Feather,Jerry Nichols (PID),Domenic Massari,Eddie Debs (Debs Real Estate) Toby (G&G) Howard (Kemplers Home Shop) Leroy,John,or any of a dozen other locals. In the dining room many local residents with lots of Sierra Highway travelers ( No freeway at that time) Sometimes Jim Arness (gunsmoke) with his family,Jack Palance(almost always alone), Richard Boone (Have Gun,Will Travel)and others, would stop in to eat or just pick up a loaf of fresh bread or whole pie(Peanut Butter the favorite). Palmdale and The Antelope Valley many of us remember from those times are gone but NOT forgotten. Thanks for the picture Bob,and the memories...
