Jesus CHRIST. I thought the friggin ASPCA commercials were horrible with the sappy music & abused pets glaring at the camera with help me eyes. I have to be honest & admit I laughed...not because of the seriousness of the fact that things like this *can* happen, but because they are just commercials, and they are SO over-the-top cheesy. The one around the 2:50 mark where the lovers get smushed together is particularly ridiculous. Im not saying that hasnt happened, but it doesnt happen OFTEN. Reminding people to pay attention when driving isnt a bad idea, its just that these are executed for maximum impact, and they step over the line into silliness, IMO. Its somewhat insulting to me that someone, somewhere, thinks you and I are such a horrible drivers that we need to be reminded to tone down our general asshole-ness because we might hit an old lady with a baby buggy that comes jetting out from a blind spot on the assumption that another car isnt barreling along. Shit happens, and life is dangerous. Is guilting the crap out of people BEFORE they cause an accident really preventing accidents?! I really dont think so. The definition of accident is, afterall, something that happened that you did not mean to happen. If we could control them, THEY WOULDNT BE CALLED ACCIDENTS.
