Jesus Is the Way, The Truth, and the Life JESUS IS THE WAY, the truth, and the life. In order for us to truly understand what it means to believe that Jesus is the truth, we have to know the beginning, the middle and the end of Jesus’ life. By the way, the end in Jesus’ story is also the beginning of his resurrection. In order for us to know the truth, we have to follow Jesus’ way – his action, his pattern of behavior in connecting with the power and powerless of his time, his challenges to the powerful and rich, his way of laying his life down for others, his way of entering into the destruction of human fear and emerging triumphantly with love and grace. In order to discern the truth, we need to live a life patterned after Jesus’ – his relationships with his humble and courageous earthly parents, his acceptance of his calling, his recognition of his divinity, his compassion for the powerless and poor, his sharing of his power and authority with his friends, his boldness to challenge the system with love, his sharing of God’s abundance, his courage to face suffering and death, and his unshakable belief in the resurrection. Jesus’ life is the way to follow and the life to live, in order for us to be the truth. Truth is a way of being – a journey, a process, a spirituality, a relationship with God through Christ, a way to see the world as God sees it, and a way that leads to action to restore the blessings that flow from God to all.
