Jesus’ affections are better than anything this world can offer. Everybody knows it. However, when we pursue blessing in our circumstances more than intimacy with God, then we become more vulnerable to bitterness, competition, comparison, and being ensnared by temptation. It is right to pursue blessed circumstance, but not at the expense of growing in intimacy with God. When we do this, the Lord taps us on the shoulder and says, “Turn around and focus on the superior pleasures of knowing Me. I can fascinate your heart with My Son.”
