Jets maintain their winning streak, with four in a row! On Saturday, the Jets took to Cambridgeshire to face the Peterborough Islanders. Both teams were unbeaten in their first 3 games, so there was a lot riding on this one. It was Slough who seized control from the first puck drop, taking only 54 seconds to put a goal into Daniel Lane’s net, Ben Ealey-Newman doing the honours on an unassisted assault. It only took the Jets another 2 minutes at 2:48 to make the score 0 – 2, with Alan Green burying a pass from Lewis Tribble, with Cox grabbing the further assist. The Jets dominated the first period which saw them net a further goal at 6:15 as Stas Prokofiev grabbed his first of the campaign with Nathan Darmanin providing the set up. Slough dominated the rest of the period, with Danny Milton turning away all 9 shots to deny the Islanders, Slough went into the first break 0 – 3 up. The second period was a much different affair, with the ice tilting towards Peterborough. It took Conor Pollard 43 seconds to register the Islander’s first, from Robert Ferrara and Dale Jowett. The period proved more to be a war of attrition, which saw end to end hockey and both teams peppering shots at the netminders. Slough increased the gap to 3 when Josh Ealey-Newman registered his first goal of the game from a Conor Redmond rebound. More toing and froing ensued, with Peterborough notching their second through Nathan Pollard, assisted by James White and Conor Pollard at 37:00. Slough managed to steady the ship, and went into the second break 2 – 4 ahead. Milton facing 14 shots to Lane’s 10. The third period was underway, and Peterborough were hungry to close the 2 goal deficit, they showed their intent at 43:44 when Robert Ferrara scored on the powerplay from Conor and Nathan Pollard to close the gap and put the pressure on the Jets. Further pressure was added when Alan Green was ejected from the game with a match penalty for boarding at 45:13. However, Slough rallied and fought back with an arsenal of their own. With Danny in net, turning the shots away at one end, Josh Ealey-Newman went on to score his second of the night, again assisted by Redmond at 52:48. With 1:02 to go in the game and Slough serving a penalty, the Islanders pulled their netminder to give Milton one last onslaught, it was to be Slough’s victory however, when Ben Ealey-Newman lifted the puck over 6 Peterborough players into the empty net to secure the 3 – 6 win for the Jets and his second of the evening. Final shots on goal were 9 for a total of 27 on Peterborough and 13 for a total of 36 on Slough. With Milts taking the man of the match beers for an outstanding performance!
