Jetstar welcomes 100th plane - Jetstar Group has celebrated reaching 100 aircraft, saying the milestone reflects the scale of the airline across the Asia Pacific. Jetstar launched in 2004 as a small domestic carrier with just 14 aircraft flying up and down the east coast of Australia. The low fares airline has become the fastest airline brand in Asia Pacific to grow its fleet to 100 aircraft. To commemorate the milestone, Jetstar applied a special 100th aircraft livery on the newest of its Sharklet-equipped A320s. Christchurch Airport has been quick to congratulate Jetstar on achieving two unique milestones this month, as the airline celebrates carrying 5 million domestic passengers across New Zealand as well as the introduction of its 100th aircraft. Jetstar launched its first international services from Christchurch Airport to four trans-Tasman destinations in 2006. It has based crew and aircraft at the airport to support its growing domestic services. Matthew Findlay from the airport says Jetstar deserves to be commended on its investment in developing a choice of services for the whole region and its focus on stimulating growth for the travel industry. Advertisement "To grow from a domestic carrier to a major brand recognised across the region in less than 10 years is very significant - and testament to the hard work and dedication of the whole Jetstar Group." Findlay said Jetstar has grown its share of the NZ market while making air travel more accessible to more people.
