#Jharkhand in Republic Day Parade – 2015 #Maluti Temples: Maluti, located in the interiors of the jungles and hilly tracts of #Santhal Pargana of #Jharkhand 55 kms from Dumka District headquarters, is famous for architecturally splendid terracotta temples representing fusion of various cults and beliefs. The village is noted for a large number of temples, originally 108 of which 72 are standing. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it displays a synthesis of three great currents of Indian religious traditions - Shakti, Shaiva and Buddhist ways of realising the Absolute all three being syncretised in the presiding goddess Devi Mauliksha in the 17 century AD. The Lone Cursader: Gopaldas Mukherjees withered face deepens into a frown when he looks around the place he so dearly loves. You follow his gaze — and stand dumbfounded. There is temple, after temple, after temple. Some still standing, their exquisite terracotta designs preserved for centuries, others in varying stages of decay and mostly in ruins.
