Jihad means fighting for the sake of Allah specifically or Jihad means struggling/striving in general...??? -------------------------------------------------------------------- Sheikh Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymin rahimahullah said: “If the Shar’ee (legislative) meaning and the linguistic meaning differ, what the Shar’ee (legislative) meaning dictates is preferred. This is because the Quran was revealed to explain the Shar’ (legislation) and not for the explanation of the language. This is the case unless there be an evidence which gives more weight to the linguistic meaning, then it is preferred.” [[ Usul fil-Tafsir ]] ...Linguistic, Shariah, Customary and Technical meaning of the word Jihad... Linguistic -- exhausting your effort in any deed/striving/struggling (general for good or evil) Shariah -- striving to the limit in fighting in the sake of Allah directly, or by money or intellect or by increasing the number or by other means (attending injured or cooking) Customary -- Fighting for the sake of Allah Technical -- Jihad is calling towards the true religion and fighting with ones soul and wealth against those who reject it (Hanafi); Jihad is fighting (Shafii); Jihad is a muslim waging war against the non-muslims who has no peace-agreement and the fighting is for the sake of Allah (Malikii), Jihad is fighting (Hanbali) [[ Imam Ibn Nahhas rahimahullah; Book of Jihad ]] ------------------------------------------------------------------- Use the proper meaning from now on...!!!
