Jindo/Husky mix, ID#A047540, another No-Name girl, has been at the Santa Monica Animal Shelter (Santa Monica, CA) since Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014. Shes between 1 and 2 yrs. old, about 30 lbs. and her left eye is blue. Shes mostly Jindo in behavior and body but that one blue eye reveals her Husky genes. Shes sweet, shy and still somewhat fearful about being leashed (may have something got to do with how she was snagged when captured in the field) or having hands waved over her head or over her back. She was picked up as a stray but since no dog is born with a nice red halter its clear someone was taking care of her. She has no tags or microchip. It took about 20 minutes today (Monday) -- only 48 hrs. after being captured and incarcerated in the shelter -- to finally accept being leashed without serious backing into a corner. On Sunday she wouldnt take treats but today she was eager for them yet took them so, so gently from my hand. As she began to feel less fearful about me, she licked my hand and arm several times. She also let me give her a gentle chest rub. She has been howling a bit since Saturday. Shes a sweet little girl who would probably adapt well to a home setting; shes somewhat clean so wasnt in the streets very long. I took walked her a bit today and shes ok on leash; I didnt ask too much of her since shes still stressed -- so I dont know yet if she knows any commands -- although her tail did come out once she was allowed to walk outside her kennel. She is a slow-go being leashed. Well see if that fear subsides when she realizes the human with the leash means she gets to go for a walk. She was picked up and placed on the vets table for exam today and it went well even though she was considered a nipper by the officer who captured her and brought her in. The video was taken Monday (11/17/14). Video on YouTube: youtu.be/Bjx77fMG4iw
