Job Description Job Title: Aboriginal Programs Coordinator Job ID: 1026629 Location: Fort Saskatchewan Full/Part Time: Full-Time Regular/Temporary: Regular Scope: Open competition Closing Date: October 8, 2014 Classification: Correctional Service Worker 1-2 Ministry: Justice and Solicitor General Role: The Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Centre has an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal Programs Coordinator. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Programs, this position will be part of a dynamic team of professionals working in the maintenance, development, co-ordination and delivery of a wide range of institutional programs, with special emphasis on the Aboriginal offender. The position is responsible for liaising with Aboriginal Elders, coordinating and facilitating spiritual programs for offenders, and assisting with compassionate escorts. Responsibilities also include program development, delivery and co-ordination aimed at educating staff and offenders about the Aboriginal culture. The successful candidate must work well with the centre management, staff, community agencies and resources, in order to achieve program goals. The work requires excellent communication skills, as well as the ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision. Knowledge of Aboriginal language and culture is an asset. Qualifications: Directly related university degree/diploma or in-service Criminal Justice Certificate is required; as is experience with Aboriginal agencies, organizations and culture. You must be physically and medically fit. Candidates must have a valid drivers license. Salary $2,135.75 - $3,006.34 bi-weekly Notes - Hours of work are 08:15 - 16:30 Monday to Friday excluding holidays. - There is no public transportation available to the Centre.
