Kim Kim Kullmer Volunteer Coordinator and Outreach NYC Compost Project Hosted by Earth Matter e: [email protected] o: 646-734-6151 . c: 646.673.3473 Website | Newsletter | Facebook | Twitter Mission: to encourage neighbor participation and leadership in composting The NYC Compost Project works to rebuild NYC’s soil, neighborhood by neighborhood // Position Title: Part-time Field Assistant, NYC Compost Project hosted by Earth Matter NY Reports to: Compost Operations Manager and Resource Recovery Coordinator, NYC Compost Project hosted by Earth Matter NY Program Information: The NYC Compost Project, created by the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) in 1993, works to rebuild NYC’s soils by providing New Yorkers with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities they need to make and use compost locally. NYC Compost Project programs are implemented by DSNY-funded teams at seven host organizations, including Earth Matter NY. Earth Matter NY is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the art, science, and application of composting in and around New York City. The Position: The NYC Compost Project seeks an enthusiastic individual with composting experience to be a part-time Field Assistant. Responsibilities: Assist the Compost Operations Manager in all aspects of operations, including: Accept and process organics Maintain working, curing and maturing compost piles Collect and maintain data on operations and compost pile health Clean and maintain tools and collection bins Co-lead volunteer work groups in compost processing Assist the Resource Recovery Coordinator with the collection and processing of organics generated on Governors Island at public events, source separation stations, and from vendors Qualifications: Knowledge of urban composting best management practices and regulations Experience composting 10cy volumes minimum Heavy lifting and moving of materials required (85lbs) Experience with equipment operation: skid steer, agricultural feed mixer, wood chipper Work reliably and effectively, both independently and as part of team of staff/volunteers Maintain a safe and clean work environment and comply with all procedures, rules, and regulations General construction experience a plus NYS driver license a plus Hours and Compensation: This is an hourly position for 10 hours per week.
