Job Posting ESL Teaching Specialist (9754) Minnesota English Language Program (MELP) University of Minnesota cce.umn.edu/esl Apply online at: employment.umn.edu/applicants/Central?quickFind=125394 The Minnesota English Language Program (MELP) in the College of Continuing Education is seeking applicants for a full-time Teaching Specialist position beginning January 2015. This is a 100% time, 9-month, annually renewable Professional and Administrative appointments that report to the Director of English Language Programs. Each Teaching Specialist is responsible for teaching three courses per semester in addition to curriculum development, administrative duties, and committee work. Priority deadline for applications is November 10, 2014. Required qualifications include 1) a Masters Degree in TESL or a closely related field, 2) at least one year of full-time ESL teaching experience at the college or university level in the U.S., 3) evidence of an excellent teaching record and superior communication skills in English. Preferred qualifications include significant additional experience teaching ESL at the college or university level; successful completion of an ESL practicum course (with documentation); experience mentoring new ESL teachers in ones own classroom; experience teaching diverse groups in a variety of settings; experience integrating technology into the language teaching; strong interpersonal skills; the ability to work well on a team; experience and interest in curriculum development; and evidence of professional activity in the ESL field. The Minnesota English Language Program (MELP) has three components: 1) ESL credit classes, 2) a non-credit Intensive English Program, and 3) English language training programs for special groups. Professional teaching faculty and advanced graduate students provide language instruction, academic support, and cultural orientation to students who plan to study at universities or colleges in the U.S. or who want to improve their English for personal or professional reasons. In addition to teaching English, the program seeks to introduce students to academic and community life. The program is committed to developing a team-based culture in which administrators work closely with office staff, professional teachers, and teachers-in-training.
