Job listing: Assistant Professor in Religion and Material Culture with a Focus on Latin America, the Caribbean and/or the “Black Atlantic” Region The Department of Religious Studies at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in the field of Religious Studies and Material/Visual Culture. The search committee is interested in specialists with research experience in the Latin American, Caribbean, and/or “Black Atlantic” region (including West Africa) either in the contemporary period or the pre-or-post-colonial period. The successful candidate should have a broad and deep knowledge of the sources and languages of the region. Attention to interactions and influences between Latin American, Caribbean, and/or the Black Atlantic thought and culture and other religious traditions, language groups, and geographical regions, historically and/or into the present, is welcome. The candidate for this new faculty position should have a compelling and original research agenda and a commitment to pursue it within the interdisciplinary framework offered by the Department of Religious Studies, the School of Arts and Sciences, and the wider University. The successful candidate will participate in the department’s undergraduate and graduate teaching mission. A normal teaching load is 4 courses per year on a semester system.
