The successful applicant will be legally employed by ArtsReady, but will work on-site with the Bangarra Dance Theatre and receive an accredited Certificate III in Live Production and Services through the Sydney Opera House. Bangarra Dance Theatre is Australias leading Indigenous performing arts organisation. Under the leadership of Stephen Page, Bangarra creates distinctively Australian theatrical experiences, weaving traditional and modern cultures seamlessly into its award-winning dance theatre productions. In meeting its cultural responsibilities, Bangarra invests in building and maintaining relationships with traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elders and communities. Bangarra’s fourteen member dance ensemble originates from across Australia representing numerous Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nations. Bangarra tours extensively to national, regional and remote centres across Australia and internationally each year. Commencing in May 2014, the 12-month Production Traineeship will focus on providing training in all aspects of Bangarra’s production and touring activities and provide the experience necessary for a career in the Indigenous arts industry. The Traineeship will be based out of Bangarra’s studios in Sydney, with extensive touring around Australia during the year. The successful candidate will gain experience across many aspects of Bangarra’s activities including production management, company management, stage management, lighting, sound, staging, costume and prop construction, community engagement and education workshops. The trainee will work directly with the Production and Touring Manager and in association with the other members of the production team.
