Joe Pietersen leaving the Stormers for Biarritz It has been announced today that Joe Pietrsen will move to Biarritz. the question is can you blame him? He has been one of the outstanding goal kickers in Vodacom Super Rugby this season with a 88% success ratio. That is higher than any of the goal kickers in the current Springbok squad. At fullback Pietersen has been consistent for the Cape Town side. Defencively he is sound and he has the ability to attack when needed. He might not be the no. 1 fullback in the country but he sure is one of the top 3 and with his boot as a bonus. Yet he has been overlooked time and time again when it comes to the Green and Gold jersey of the Springboks. He might not be a starting XV player, but as an impact player of the bench can add value. Once again we will be losing an above average player to South African Rugby. True not every player can be selected for the Springboks, but Pietersen has been consistent with the boot over the last 3 seasons. Much more than Steyn or Lambie can say. All I can add is that I wish Pietersen well in his endeavours in France. I just hope and pray he doesn’t become eligible to play for France and come back to haunt the Springboks.
