John Cleese makes some astute observations on modern comedy toward the end. Which reminds me of Mel Brooks who did a special on PBS a dozen or so years ago where he noted (wisely) that tv in the very early years was more intelligent because the folks who could afford s tv set were better educated and demanded smart thought provoking comedy where you didnt have to spell the joke out for the viewer. Thus John Cleese pointing out the observations of the Latin used in the movie The Life Of Brian, reminded me of how growing up we had to learn Latin in school which is the base language, science, math etc. Now I know why the only shows my parents allowed were Your Show Of Shows, Jack Paar, Steve Allen etc. They made you think while making you laugh. John Stewarts The Daily Show. The Colbert Report and John Oliver are much the same, thankfully.
