John Fountain was a tailor here in Amarillo for 47 years. I never went to his shop, but I used to hear his ads on TV all the time, so I had heard of John Fountain the Tailor. In 1994 he sold his business, and in 1999 moved together with his wife Josephine to Norwich, Connecticut to be near his daughter. On March 31, 2003, 79-year-old John Fountain the Tailor was beaten to death in his home by a robber wielding a wooden garden stake. His wife Josephine was also beaten, but didnt die immediately. On April 4, four days later, one of John and Josephines daughters came to their home and discovered her parents in their bedroom. Her father was dead, but her mother was still alive and survived another week before also dying, but during that one week she was able to say good-bye to her family and tell them exactly what happened on that terrible night. Josephine said, I begged for my life. Why did he continue to hit me? Josephine was also able to tell her children what to bury her husband in. I am sure she chose one of his favorite suits.
