John Montone By their very nature New Yorkers are jaywalkers. One woman at 96th and Broadway admitted shes always in a hurry. But with the recent rash of pedestrian fatalities, the NYPD is cracking down. Here at the busy and deadly intersection where six lanes of traffic run north/south and four east/west and people pour out of the subway station, an electronic sign reminds people to use the crosswalk. Also, two police officers are stationed here, not to slap jaywalkers with tickets, but to remind folks to stay alert as they cross. But one guy crossing Broadway against the light told 1010 WINS he jaywalks all the time and hes not about to change.
